ABOUT THIS COFFEE

This is our Fourth harvest sourcing coffees with Cargo Coffee. Upon tasting this latest crop from Sitio Portella, we were super excited to bring you a taste of a classic Brazilian profile at its very best.

Edir José de Carvalho began his coffee-growing career in 1994, with a focus on improving agricultural practices and enhancing the quality of his coffee. By 2004, his coffee was recognized among the top 50 in Minas Gerais. Together with his son Thalles, Edir manages their small farm, where they process coffee as naturals on a concrete patio.

The drying process involves placing the coffee in thin layers to rest in the sun for two days, then turning the beans 10 to 12 times daily. Midway through drying, they create thicker layers and allow the coffee to rest without moving. This process takes about 20 days to reach the ideal humidity level.

In 2020, Sitio Portella won second place in the Especialíssimo award, acknowledging the high quality of Edir's coffee. The farm repeated this achievement in 2021, sharing the recognition with his brothers Edivair and Abner. Another brother, Edenilson, had won the 2019 edition, highlighting the family's commitment to producing exceptional coffee.
